The club’s competition programme will contain a cross section of events designed to provide the opportunities for swimmers at all levels to participate.
To achieve this balance the club needs to take part in a balanced number of team events and a selection of open meets of varying standard.
|
The club’s policy on open events is to try to identify a range of competitions which provide appropriate opportunities for all its swimmers.
From September advice will be given about the standard of competition in which individual swimmers may compete, subject to entry times, type of competition,
and at what point they are within the training cycle. This will help swimmers to gain valuable technical, physical, mental and competition skills on the
pathway to achieving their full potential. Data from these competitions will also help us to monitor and plan swimmer’s pathways whilst evaluating their
present training programmes. All event entries will follow the LTAD pathway (see British Age group category sheet)
|
The club’s programme follows the LTAD pathway and is designed to provide swimmers with the technical skills to compete at all the appropriate distances in the
four competitive strokes. Coaches will advise swimmers on which events they should enter, and this will correlate directly to the club’s long term training
programme. Taking this on board will help facilitate your child’s progression in the sport. Due to changes in ASA protocol, swimmers are now required to have
achieved times at a licensed meet for entry into North Midland and Cheshire Championships (please see licensed meet sheet for an explanation). This could
potentially mean that if swimmers do not take advice from their coaches on meet entries, they will not be eligible to enter the above mentioned meets or fulfil
their squad’s prerequisite.
|
Attending a training session the night before a gala will not in any way hinder a swimmer’s performance, in fact, in many cases, it will actually enhance
their performance. There will be exceptions, of course, and this may depend on the type and importance of the particular meet or a very early start. Any concerns
on this matter should be discussed with the swimmer’s squad coach
|
What can swimmers and parents do to give swimmers the best chance to have a successful meet? ……
-Get there on time and be prepared.
All swimmers that are attending a meet should arrive in good time to take part in their allotted warm up, even if their event is not until later in the
programme. (Any swimmer who cannot meet this requirement for personal reasons should discuss it with their squad coach prior to the meet) Part of having a
successful meet is showing up on time and being prepared for the meet.
|
If for any reason you have to with draw from a gala or open meet it is your obligation to inform the Team Manger (contact details will be attached to either
the team sheet or gala information sheet).
|
We must always remember that it’s about the swimmers. We, as coaches, are not only trying to create an environment which will allow swimmers to reach their
full potential, but also try to create awareness, develop responsibility, self belief and give them ownership of their sport.
|
The support of all parents is paramount to a swimmer’s development and success.
Parents should: -
• Guard against exerting undue pressure on their child.
• Help to create an environment where children feel comfortable with their own swimming ambitions.
• Encourage their child to set positive and realistic goals.
• Congratulate them on success but be there to provide support and sympathy when required.
• Always be positive and have an optimistic attitude towards their child’s swimming.
