Training Alterations


Due to the junior swim camp on Sunday 19th Feb evening swimming will be 5-6pm for blue group only.

The following sessions have been cancelled due to gala commitments
 
Sunday 5th Feb 5-7pm
Sunday 4th March 5-7pm
Sunday 18th March 5-7pm

Sunday morning sessions on these dates will be as follow's:
8-9am Blue Group
9-10am Red Group


Green Group sessions will carry on as normal.

North Midlands Success for Alsager Bridgestone Swimming Club
Congratulations to all the Alsager Bridgestone swimmers who took part in the North Midlands Championships in January.

“Team Alsager”, 62 swimmers strong, finished in third place overall, with a battery of fantastic swims from their 9 to 24 year old qualifying competitors.

The swimmers netted a total of 91 medals, - 31 gold, 22 silver and 38 bronze, as well as 35 Regional Qualifying Times.

Gaz makes the Olympic Trials

Gaz A small team of enthusiastic swimmers took a trip over the snowy Pennines to Leeds for the level 1 Christmas meet. This was a high class meet, against a very strong field of competitors including a number GB athletes.

But as always, the Alsager Bridgestone swimmers were not phased by this and did the Club proud with some outstanding performances.

Swimmers Gaz Johnson, Sam Pickford, James Walker, Ben Legge, Jonny Chatten, Heather Hulme, Niamh Minton and Ellie Jones put in some outstanding performances.

Naimh Minton took bronze in the 50m Backstroke with Sam Pickford just missing out by tenths of a second on his 100 backstroke National time.

However the swim of the day has to go to Gaz Johnson in the 50m Butterfly.

Mike Barnes Alsagers Bridgestone Head Coach said it was an exceptional swim from start to finish. 5.45 seconds to 15metres and 22 strokes later hitting the pads in first place in a British Gas National Championship qualifying time of 25.72 seconds and entry into the second round of the Olympic trials.

Alsagers Awesome Arena Achievement!!
Confidence was high amongst swimmers and supporters on the trip to Bury for the Arena League North West Division 1 Final.

After 2 superb performances in the rounds, Alsager had finished top of the league of 17 teams from throughout the Northwest.
The atmosphere was amazing with all teams bringing their bands of supporters and the teams on poolside had got their war paint on and the sound of cheers, drums, whistles and air horns filled the air.
North West Regional Swimmers
The 6 strong teams battled it out throughout the evening, with very few points separating the top 3 in an exhilarating nights swimming. In the end Alsager finished a fantastic 3 third place, to eventual winners Winsford and second place Blackpool, with only 6 points separating the top 3.
All 20 of the squad performed at their best, with a total of 17 personal bests and 5 new club records. Head coach Mike Barnes said "Well done to all swimmers, team managers and supporters. The gala was AWESOME."
This performance now means that Alsager Bridgestone won promotion and will be swimming in the Arena Premier League against the elite of the Northwest.

Alsager Shine as they swim against the best of the North West!
Alsager Bridgestone swimmers are celebrating after fantastic results at the Winter North West Regionals at the Manchester Aquatics Centre on 3rd & 4th December. They were up against elite athletes from clubs throughout the North West, many who regularly swim in international events.

Ten of the Club’s swimmers qualified for a variety of events, with three members making five of the finals.

Sam Pickford medalled in 50m backstroke, as did Gary Johnson in 50m fly.

Alsager Open boys swam out of their socks in the relay events, achieving a superb:
3rd in the 4 x 100m freestyle relay (Watch Lane 7. Near Side)
4th in the 4 x 100 medley relay (Watch Lane 2, Far Side)
6th in the 4 x 200m freestyle relay.

Just to top the weekend – Alsager were placed as 6th Club in the North West! Well done to all concerned:

Alsagers Wonders of Warrington.
A small team of 17 Alsager Bridgestone swimmers made the trip to Warrington for the Percy Mason Memorial Gala. The swimmers performed brilliantly once again and came away with an impressive medal haul of 6 Speeding Tickets, 7 Gold's, 5 Silver and 3 Bronze. There were many impressive performances with every swimmer achieving at least 1 personal best in their races.

Chase Open Meet

A strong team of 16 swimmers made the trip to Wolverhampton for the Chase Open Meet for a fantastic weekend of swimming against some very strong opposition. There were some amazing swims from those involved with 33 Personal Bests and a brilliant 13 new Club Records out of the 72 swims.

Over the weekend the swimmers achieved 30 top 3 places with 7 Gold, 8 Silver and 15 Bronze medals. Special mentions to Ben Legge (1 Gold, 1 Silver, 2 Bronze), Olivia Lengyel (3 Gold, 2 Bronze), Niamh Minton (2 Gold, 2 Silver, 3 Bronze) and Sam Pickford (3 Silver, 4 Bronze).

Also special congratulations to Kitty Price who set 5 new club records.

Twenty one of our swimmers competed at Fenton, between them they had 107 swims winning a plethora of medals and more importantly getting PB’s, what can we say other than well done.

What a “fantabulus” set of results there were many medals but most of all there were loads of PB’s.

Shopping In Sheffield

The intrepid weekenders put their lives and money in other people’s hands, all you could see was Alsager Bridgestone dads carrying shopping bags during the day and lifting pint pots at night….

For those who went by train it ran like a dream, well that is until a jobs worth challenges your ticket…

What an absolutely fantastic performance from 20 swimmers who represented Alsager Bridgestone at this gala. We had 34 finalist, 11 teaspoons of which 2 were gold, 2 silver and 7 bronze (more washing up). More importantly there were many, many PB’s. Not bad considering the swimmers have only been back in training for a few weeks after a nice summer break.

Biddulph Open Meet

The Biddulph Open Meet was the final competition of the season, and what an amazing way to sign off in what has been a fantastic year for Alsager Bridgestone. Led by Head Coach Mike Barnes & Junior Coach Gary Johnson, Alsager had 43 swimmers making the short trip to Biddulph.

In the mornings were the heats... filled full of PB’s, club records and fantastic swims to reach the finals. Alsager had a massive 27 swimmers who qualified for the finals. The support shown in every final during the afternoon was something to be proud of! Alsager’s swimmers and even the parents gave all Alsager swimmers a standing applause as the swimmers marched round the pool proudly wearing the Alsager colours.

The support from such a well supported club rubbed off on the swimmers breaking 6 ‘Biddulph Open Meet Records’, picking up a HUGE total of 21 Gold Medals, 15 Silver Medals, 14 Bronze Medals and 24 4th,5th & 6th place medals.

After what was a memorable final competition of the season, Alsager Bridgestone finished 2ND BEST CLUB of the competition and there were special awards for...

Winsford Open Meet

On a hot summer’s day Alsager Bridgestone youngsters (some of the competing for the first time) competed at the Winsford Junior Development Meet. Alsager’s swimmers swam fantastically well smashing PB’s in every race and picking up a staggering 10 Gold Medals, 12 Silver Medals & 9 Bronze Medals.

Beth Hitchen was the star of the competition picking up 3 Gold, 3 Silver and 1 Bronze.

Well done and fantastic efforts to all the swimmers that took part. The future looks bright for our young swimmers!

North West Regional Age Group

Alsager Bridgestone travelled to North West Regional Age Groups lead by Head Coach Mike Barnes. The competition was over 2 back to back weekends at Manchester Aquatics and was Long course (50m). Alsager had 4 Regional Age Groupers proudly representing the club. Ben Legge & Niamh Minton were competing for their 2nd time at the Regional’s after competing last year and newcomers Jonathan Chatten & Lydia O’Neil.

Niamh Minton competing in 10 Events ranging from the 400I.M to the 200Fly over the weekends, tough going! Niamh narrowly missed out on PB’s and finals, the closest she came was making reserve finalist for the 400I.M. Ben Legge & Jonathan Chatten swam the freestyle events 100,200,400,1500m Freestyle. Jonathan rose to the occasion and knocked a massive 16 Seconds off his 1500m PB and finished a fantastic 6th place. Lydia O’Neil competing in the breaststroke events (100/200m) narrowly missed out on the 100m Breaststroke final, finishing 9th (1st Reserve for the final) but finished with a 2 second PB.

Celebration Gala – Alsager Crowned Champions!
At Last! Alsager Bridgestone were crowned Champions of the Peak & Plain League. In a remarkable turnaround, it’s taken 3 years to come from the bottom of the Plain league to the top of Peak League. Alsager can now finally take the trophy home to its rightful place.

The celebration gala welcomed back everyone that had previously achieved swim out’s as there were medals up for grabs for the winners! Alsager missing a handful of swimmers due to school trips and exams meant that swimmers had even more swims to contend with.

Alsager finished a fantastic 2nd place closely behind Trafford. Alsager swimmers picked up a Whopping 42 medals! The team spirit of Alsager shone throughout the whole competition on poolside, especially at the celebration. Covered in war paint, hooters and air horns Alsager young guns cheered and chanted every single race.

The 10/u lead right from the start and maintained the lead right through to the Open, brought home in fantastic style by Tom Bloor and all picking up medals for their efforts.

‘ALSAGER BRIDGESTONE PEAK AND PLAIN CHAMPIONS 2011’
Wonders of Wrexham!!
Awaiting Picture. A small band of Alsager swimmers travelled a few short miles to the Welsh border town of Wrexham at the Weekend to swim at the Cath Ankers Meet.

The 22 swimmers performed magnificently, swimming 79 races between them, with personal bests coming thick and fast, with a stunning total of 65 achieved at the meet.

There were too many excellent swims to mention, with every swimmer achieving at least one personal best and 13 out of the 22 swimmers achieving the maximum of one in every race they competed in! However, Pb’s of the day must go to Rebecca Holmes and Jodie Hulme, who knocked around 36 seconds off their 100m I.M’s!!!!!!

Big thanks to Gaz, Kevin and Mark Holmes for their help on poolside and to all parents for making the trip to Wrexham so that the swimmers could take part.
